First Year Scholarships

Muskingum offers academic scholarships to qualified students based on the strength of high school curriculum and GPA. The application for admission serves as the application for scholarships and awards unless otherwise noted.

Scholarship Amounts

Additional Scholarship & Award opportunities for First-Year Students

Impact Scholarships

Impact Scholarships are awarded to students based on their participation in the Academic Scholarship Program. The scholarships are typically in the range of $500 to $2,000 and are renewable annually.

John Glenn Scholarships

John Glenn Scholarship are Muskingum's highest award - a four-year, full-tuition scholarship offered to a small number of entering first-year students through the Academic Scholarship Program.

Out-of-State Grant

Out-of-State Grant Up to a $2,000 award to incoming domestic students who are residents of a state other than Ohio.

Education Department Scholarships

Education Department Scholarships up to $1,500 per year are directed toward students who are interested in a career in teaching. Selection of recipients is made by the Education Department.

Austin E. Knowlton Foundation Endowed Memorial Scholarship

The Austin E. Knowlton Foundation Endowed Memorial Scholarship is designed to aid students majoring in a STEM (science, technology, engineering, math) discipline or related field. The scholarship is renewable for four years provided the student continues progression in a STEM major. There is no separate scholarship process. Candidates meeting the criteria cited are automatically considered upon admission to Muskingum University.

Science Division/ Choose Ohio First Scholarships

Science Division Scholarships up to $2,000 per year are directed toward outstanding students pursuing a degree in the natural and physical sciences. Selection of recipients is made by the Science Division.

Choose Ohio First Scholarships up to $3,500 per year are funded through a grant from the Ohio Department of Higher Education and are intended to advance Ohio’s position in world markets in the areas of science and technology. Ohio residency is a requirement.

Performance Awards

Muskingum offers several scholarships to students interested in participating or majoring in the following areas. Performance awards are determined by the respective academic departments. Additional information on these scholarships and applications can be found by clicking on the links below:

Horizon Awards

Horizon Awards up to $1,500 per year awarded to selected students based on involvement, achievement, and leadership in multiple areas. Awards are determined at the time of acceptance and amounts are determined by the admission office.

PLUS Opportunity Award

The PLUS Opportunity Award is a need-based scholarship to support students with financial need in accessing the PLUS Program Services at the Premier-level of support or those that choose to bundle Select and Connections support. The PLUS Opportunity Award may be valued at up to $2000 per semester for up to three years and if students meet specific criteria.

Legacy Grants

Legacy Grants Up to $3,000 per year awarded to students having one of the following Legacy connections:

  • The student must be the dependent child, grandchild or sibling of a former Muskingum University student who has completed at least two years/four semesters at Muskingum University or
  • be the sibling of a current Muskingum University student who is a dependent of the same parents.
  • Other cases where an immediate family relationship with a current Muskingum student or Alumnus exist (such as: step-parent, step-sibling) may also be approved by the Financial Aid Committee.

    Students who qualify should complete the Legacy Grant information form.
General Motors EEOC Scholarship

General Motors EEOC Scholarship $1,000 per year
Awarded to minority students and female dependents of GM employees. A 2.8 cumulative GPA is required for renewal of the scholarship.

Presbyterian Grants

Presbyterian Grants up to $1,000 per year
Automatically awarded to communicant members of the Presbyterian Church (USA). Students who qualify should complete the Presbyterian Grant information sheet.

Esports

Muskingum is offering esports scholarships for students interested in competing on the Muskingum varsity esports team. The selection of recipients is made by Coach Tristan Murphy. Archery

Muskingum is offering archery scholarships up to $1,000 per year for students interested in competing on the Muskingum varsity archery team.
