Master of Occupational Therapy (MOT): Your Path Starts In Occupational Science

At Muskingum University in New Concord, Ohio, we don’t just prepare you for a job—we help you build a lifelong career in occupational therapy with immersive learning, dedicated faculty and real-world experience. Whether you’re transitioning from an occupational therapy assistant role or entering the field with a health-related bachelor’s degree, our ACOTE-accredited MOT program provides a clear path to professional growth.

Interactive online coursework and 18 on-campus weekend learning experiences allow you the flexibility to continue your home, work, and community roles while earning your Master of Occupational Therapy degree. With personalized guidance from expert faculty, you’ll gain hands-on skills through classroom instruction, simulation labs and fieldwork to prepare for diverse careers in healthcare and community settings.

The MOT program provides knowledge and skills to become an entry-level licensed occupational therapist who utilizes evidence, applies critical thinking, fosters the intraprofessional team, and values service to others for delivery of occupation-based and client-centered care.

Start your path in MOT by applying to Occupational Science (OS) first—a fully online, OT-aligned prerequisite foundation offered through Muskingum’s Adult Program. After OS, you are eligible to apply to the MOT Program.

No matter which MOT pathway you choose—Alternative or OTA-to-MOT Bridge—completed prerequisites help ensure you’re ready for Muskingum University’s rigorous Master of Occupational Therapy (MOT) curriculum (online coursework, labs, and fieldwork).

Use the Muskingum MOT Prerequisite Pre-Screening Tool for a quick, unofficial check of what courses you’ve completed and those you may still need—so you can start early and plan with confidence.

I really love Muskingum’s hybrid program because it makes doing school and work easy. I wouldn’t have been able to do a continuing education program if it wasn’t offered hybrid.
