Become a Licensed Teacher with a Master of Arts in Teaching
Career Changer. Aspiring Teacher. Paraprofessional. At Muskingum University, individuals with a bachelor’s degree can choose from several teacher licensure programs to earn their first license. Choose the Master of Arts in Teaching (MAT) program to obtain your graduate degree while working toward your teaching license. Areas of study include primary and elementary education, middle childhood education, and special education, as well as language arts, mathematics, science, and social studies for grades 7-12. These programs meet the requirements for teaching certification in Ohio and are aligned with state standards.
Depending on the path you choose, you may earn your master’s degree in teaching while completing licensure requirements or choose to pursue only your teaching license. Select programs offer accelerated or hybrid formats, including JUMPSTART, allowing you to move into the classroom sooner with the credentials you need.
