Earn two highly desirable credentials in one integrated route. With Muskingum University’s Master of Arts in Teaching (MAT) blended license program, you can obtain initial teacher licensure online in both PreK–5 primary education and Intervention Specialist (Mild/Moderate) K-12 simultaneously, preparing you to teach and support diverse learners.

This dual license pathway combines competencies in:

  • Special education strategies for students with mild to moderate needs in grades K-12

WHAT CAN YOU DO WITH A BLENDED PRIMARY EDUCATION / INTERVENTION SPECIALIST (MILD/MODERATE) LICENSE?

With a Blended Primary Education / Intervention Specialist (Mild/Moderate) Licensure through the Master of Arts in Teaching (MAT), you will be prepared to:

  • Teach in PreK–Grade 5 classrooms and support the academic and developmental needs of young learners
  • Provide specialized instruction and interventions for students with mild to moderate disabilities in inclusive or small-group settings
  • Design developmentally appropriate lessons that integrate evidence-based literacy, math, and behavioral supports
  • Use assessment tools and progress monitoring to guide instructional decisions and meet diverse learner needs
  • Collaborate with families, general education teachers, and school support teams to create inclusive learning plans
  • Build positive, supportive classroom environments that promote belonging, independence, and early academic success

CAREER OUTCOMES & ROLES

Graduates of this blended license program may pursue roles such as:

  • Primary Education Teacher (PreK–5) in public, private, or charter school settings
  • Intervention Specialist (Mild/Moderate) supporting students with learning, behavioral, or developmental needs
  • Inclusive classroom or co-teaching partner in general education environments
  • Reading or academic intervention specialist (early literacy, reading support, or small-group instruction)
  • Special education resource teacher within MTSS or RTI frameworks
  • Coordinator or advisor for early learning programs, family engagement initiatives, or school-based support services
