English Language Assistance for Non-Native English Speakers

Muskingum University does not offer conditional admission, but we do recognize that non-native English speaking students may benefit from some extra assistance in acclimating to studying in a second language and culture. To that end, Muskingum University gives academically qualified, degree-seeking students who are not native speakers of English, the opportunity to hone their language skills and become more familiar with the American style of education in a university setting.  Courses offered that provide English language assistance include ESP 101, 102, 104, 251/351, and WRLD 200. Students who wish to receive English language assistance are eligible to request extended time on all in-class tests and exams during their first year. Students pay regular full-time tuition to participate in this program; ESL classes and all support services are provided at no additional cost.

A Typical Weekly Schedule

Students' schedules vary depending on their interests and abilities. Students who choose to receive English language support are encouraged to take some general requirements right away, like First Year Seminar, mathematics and laboratory sciences. Physical education and studio arts are also suitable for students while they are still refining basic communication skills.
