Reference, Instruction, and AI Librarian
Muskingum University invites applications for a Reference, Instruction, and AI Librarian. This position will bridge the gap between traditional library services and emerging AI-driven technologies and help shape the future of academic librarianship at the University. This role supports students (traditional, adult, professional), faculty, and staff in navigating both physical and digital information landscapes, while also leading the integration of AI tools.
MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES
- AI & Digital Innovation
- Collaborate with campus teams to implement and maintain AI-powered research tools, chatbots, and discovery systems.
- Instruct students and faculty on the ethical and effective use of AI in academic research.
- Collaborate with IT and academic departments to integrate AI into digital scholarship initiatives.
- Stay current with trends in AI, machine learning, and digital librarianship.
- Traditional Services
- Provide reference and research assistance across disciplines.
- Participate in physical and digital collection development.
- Teach information literacy, including AI literacy, and research skills through workshops and classroom instruction.
- Collaborate with faculty to support curriculum development and resource integration.

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
- Master's degree in Library and Information Science (MLIS) from an ALA-accredited program.
- Demonstrated experience with academic research support and instruction.
- Knowledge of AI tools (e.g., language models, citation generators, data visualization platforms).
- Ability to communicate effectively with superior interpersonal skills, both verbal and written
- Ability to work closely with all constituencies of the University.
- Ability to resolve challenges effectively and efficiently
PREFERRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
- Experience with digital humanities, data science, or instructional design.
- Knowledge of programming languages (e.g., Python, R) or data management tools.
