Custodian

Muskingum University welcomes applications for full-time custodians.  Custodians report to the Custodial Shift Supervisor of Physical Plant.

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Dust, mops, sweeps, wet mops, spray and buff floors, vacuum and clean rugs and carpets.
  • Scrubs and cleans restroom fixtures, stocks restrooms with supplies (e.g., towels, soap and other appropriate items, maintains supply closet and inventory.
  • Dust and cleans walls, doors, windows, woodwork, and other above-floor surfaces, cleans elevators, stairwells, and outside entrances.
  • Lock and unlock campus buildings, provide general maintenance of lighting for campus thruways and buildings (e.g., replace light bulbs, etc.).
  • Collects, removes, and deposits trash in designated collection areas or dumpsters; maintains cleanliness of dumpster and waste receptacles; sweeps and cleans walkways; removes snow from walks.
  • Lock and unlock campus buildings, provide general maintenance of lighting for campus thruways and buildings (e.g., replace light bulbs, etc.).
  • Communicates potential safety and mechanical hazards to Team Leader; notifies Team Leader of equipment and facilities in need of repair or replacement, maintains records and reports as instructed by Team Leader.
  • Set-up University events as required (e.g., move tents, assist with stage, provide chairs, receptacles, etc.).
  • Supervise student helpers as assigned. Assign tasks monitor work, provide feedback and evaluate work.

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES

  • Ability to perform manual tasks requiring moderate physical strength including ability to move ladders, mop buckets and furniture.
  • Knowledge of safe cleaning methods materials, and equipment.
  • Ability to operate mechanical cleaning equipment.
  • Ability to follow verbal and written instructions in the conduct of the job.
  • Ability to establish and maintain good working relationships with team (i.e., Supervisor, co-workers, employees, and students)
  • Ability to use cleaning equipment and machines, lift ladders, and equipment.
  • Must have and maintain a valid Ohio driver's license and be insurable through the university carrier.

Work schedule is Monday through Friday, 4:00 am-12:30 pm.
