Assistant or Associate Professor of Engineering

The Department of Physics and Engineering at Muskingum University invites applications for a full-time, tenure track engineering faculty position at the rank of Assistant or Associate Professor, rank commensurate with experience, beginning Fall 2023. The Department offers an ABET-accredited Bachelor’s degree in General Engineering and a degree in Physics. The General Engineering program includes a broad background in electrical and mechanical engineering and builds on this foundation with aspects of computational science, material science, and physics. We are seeking energetic and visionary applicants to support current departmental initiatives, including expanding the curriculum to meet regional workforce needs, building engineering pathways in partnership with pipeline educational institutions, and participation in a multi-institutional grant partnership to support talent development for the Intel semiconductor facility located in the region.

The successful candidate will demonstrate potential for, and commitment to, teaching of a variety of undergraduate courses that could include introduction to Physics and Engineering, Statics, Dynamics, Principles of Design, and Fluid Mechanics as well as their associated laboratories and will also guide senior capstone projects. In addition, the faculty member will draw from prior partnerships and professional experiences to strengthen relationships with industry to expand project collaborations, internship opportunities, and industrial mentoring. Other responsibilities will include holistic advising of students regarding academics, career paths, and wellbeing, participation in curriculum development and assessment, performing appropriate scholarly research and professional activity, assisting in maintaining ABET accreditation, and serving on university committees.

Qualifications

  • A Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering or a related field is required.
  • An undergraduate Engineering degree from an ABET/EAC-accredited institution is preferred.
  • Proven record of effective teaching at the undergraduate level.
  • Evidence of strong and respectful collaborative working relationships with faculty colleagues and community members.
  • Innovative approaches to building programs that nurture student talent and maximize opportunities for applied learning.

Muskingum is a comprehensive university with a strong liberal arts tradition located just seventy miles east of Columbus, Ohio, in the village of New Concord. The university’s total undergraduate, graduate, and adult learner student population is approximately 2,500.
