Accounting Analyst
Muskingum University invites applications for an Accountant Analyst. This role blends strategic financial insight with hands-on collaboration to support university-wide planning, budgeting, and decision-making. The Accounting Analyst will work closely with the Associate Vice President for Finance and Controller and with the Senior Accountant to guide financial processes, provide data-driven recommendations, and ensure sound fiscal stewardship.
MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES
Strategic Financial Planning & Analysis
- Build financial models and conduct scenario planning to inform strategic decisions
- Prepare forecasts, performance dashboards, and budget variance analyses
- Support departments in aligning operational needs with financial plans
- Develop insights and recommendations from complex data to guide leadership
- Participate in grant budgeting, tracking, and financial reporting
Accounting and Operational Finance
- Ensure accurate financial data through careful account review and process refinement
- Prepare and process financial entries that support decision-making and reporting—not just compliance
- Assist with month-end and year-end close processes with a focus on analysis, not just routine
- Contribute to external audit preparation and internal financial controls
- Help maintain system integrity in ERP and financial databases
Collaborative and Cross-Functional Support
- Serve as a partner to administrative and academic departments on budgeting and resource planning
- Support and back up colleagues in areas such as payroll and student accounts
- Contribute to special projects and process improvements across the Finance team

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Business, Economics, or a related field
- 2–4 years of experience in accounting, financial analysis, or similar roles
- High proficiency in Microsoft Excel and Microsoft Office tools
- Ability to translate financial data into actionable insights for diverse stakeholders
- Strong attention to detail, sound judgment, and professional integrity
PREFERRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
- Master’s degree (MBA, Accounting, Finance, or Economics)
- Familiarity with ERP systems or financial reporting tools
