Muskingum University students are gaining hands-on learning and career development experiences through student-faculty summer research projects under the direction of Biology and Chemistry faculty members.

These opportunities are facilitated through selective fellowships which provide a stipend and campus housing, as well as through internships. Four in-depth projects involving eight students are being led by five science division faculty members.

In February 2023, the Washington Post ranked New Concord as the 24^th Ultimate College Town. To continue to strengthen the connection between the Village of New Concord and the campus community, the Friends of New Concord are hosting New Concord Community Day. On Saturday, Sept. 2 from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m., there will be a day full of activities geared to Muskingum University students as well as activities for the entire community.

Muskingum University students and faculty traveled to London and to Scotland, Northern Ireland, and Ireland for the 2023 Spring Break and May Term study abroad trips.

Associate Professor of English Kekoa Kaluhiokalani and Assistant Professor of Media Communication Michael Carvaines led 15 students on the London Spring Break trip, which connected to the “London and Literature” and “Study of Global Cinema” courses.

Muskingum University Graduate Studies Lecturer James Alan Sturtevant ‘83 shares his expertise developed during 34 years as a high school social studies teacher. He focuses on student engagement, on which he has authored five books and hosts a podcast.

“A Muskie all the way,” James grew up in New Concord, where his father David Sturtevant was a Muskingum Professor of History (1955-1994). After his Muskingum graduation, James earned a Master of Arts Degree from The Ohio State University.

Muskingum University recognizes the members of its educational community who retired from their roles following the 2022-2023 academic year.

Muskingum University celebrated Juneteenth, the federally-recognized holiday commemorating the emancipation day of enslaved people in the United States, on June 19, 2023.

Muskingum University alumni enjoyed a summer social at the Railhouse at the East Market in Columbus, Ohio on June 8, 2023.

Sixty alumni from classes ranging from 1960 to 2022 enjoyed a casual evening featuring great conversation and delicious foods from the local vendors at the market.
