Digital Content Manager

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES
- Develop creative, engaging, and audience-focused digital content consistent with institutional priorities and the Muskingum brand.
- Manage the University’s institutional social media channels, including content calendars, publishing, community engagement, and monitoring.
- Identify and develop digital storytelling opportunities highlighting students, faculty, alumni, academic programs, campus life, events, and accomplishments.
- Stay current on social media trends, platforms, algorithms, and best practices and adjust content strategy based on performance.
- Develop and implement paid and organic digital campaigns, including audience targeting, budgeting, optimization, and reporting.
- Monitor social media activity and escalate sensitive, reputational, privacy-related, or crisis-related issues as appropriate.
- Attend University events to capture and publish timely social media, photography, and video content.
- Serve as the University’s primary photographer, capturing and editing images for the website, social media, marketing collateral, advertising, and other institutional needs.
- Create and edit short-form video and multimedia content promoting the University, its programs, people, and events.
- Serve as the primary content manager for the University website, ensuring content is accurate, current, relevant, accessible, and consistent with University standards.
- Apply SEO, accessibility, and user experience best practices to website content and make recommendations to campus offices.
- Collaborate with the University’s web developer on website functionality, technical enhancements, integrations, and other back-end projects.
- Provide training and support for University employees who maintain web content and coordinate quarterly web captain meetings.
- Regularly consult with University departments and offices to identify content needs, provide guidance, and support their strategic goals, including student recruitment, enrollment, engagement, fundraising, institutional reputation, and community connection.
- Develop and maintain policies and best practices related to the University’s website, social media, photography, video, and digital content.
- Monitor website, social media, and campaign analytics and use data to improve digital content and strategy.
- Continually pursue new opportunities, platforms, and technologies to advance the University’s digital presence.

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
- Bachelor’s degree, preferably in communications, marketing, journalism, digital media, or related field of study.
- Minimum of three years of professional experience in digital communications, social media, website content management, photography, videography, or related field.
- Strong knowledge of social media platforms, audiences, trends, algorithms, analytics, and best practices.
- Strong writing, editing, proofreading, and digital storytelling skills.
- Demonstrated photography skills, including event, portrait, and candid photography.
- Experience creating and editing short-form video and multimedia content.
- Proficiency with Adobe Creative Cloud or comparable photography, video, and audio editing tools.
- Experience creating and maintaining website content in Drupal or a similar content management system.
- Basic understanding of HTML and CSS for content formatting and troubleshooting.
- Experience with SEO, web accessibility, and web and social media analytics.
- Sound editorial judgment and ability to recognize issues requiring consultation or escalation.
- Excellent project management, organizational, communication, and collaboration skills.
- Ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines while maintaining accuracy, quality, and brand consistency.
- Ability to work occasional nights and weekends to photograph, record, and provide social media coverage of University events.
PREFERRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
- Experience developing and managing paid digital or social media campaigns preferred.
- Understanding of copyright, privacy, FERPA, and accessibility in digital content creation.
- Experience managing higher education social media channels using tools such as Buffer.
