System Mechanic and Maintenance Supervisor

Muskingum University invites applications for a System Mechanic & Maintenance Supervisor.  This position ensures maintenance and repair of campus systems, such as HVAC, electrical, boiler, steam, plumbing, and other associated equipment systems, in a manner that minimizes the downtime of repairs and maximizes daily operation.   

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Suggest and implement changes in equipment for more efficient operation. 
  • Coordinate limited-scope construction projects. 
  • Supervise maintenance staff, including assessment and delegation of work assignments. 
  • Foster teamwork and coordination of effort among staff and continue collaboration between personnel assigned to maintenance and grounds. 
  • Provide professional development opportunities where appropriate. 
  • Comply with regulatory agency requirements (chemical hygiene, hazardous materials, OSHA, etc.) 
  • Perform staff evaluations. 
  • Maintain repair/supplies inventory. 
  • Order materials using the physical plant purchase order program, review invoices, and assign appropriate account numbers to invoices.  
  • Work within budget limitations. 
  • Maintain safe environment for staff and students. 
  • Develop and coordinate working relationships with vendors, suppliers, and contractors to maintain the campus. 
  • Conduct regularly building and HVAC quality assurance checks. 
  • Record reading from gauges and meters for pressure, temperature, water levels, etc.  
  • Conduct routine maintenance and any necessary repairs to heating, ventilation, air conditioning, refrigeration, pneumatic systems, steam systems, and boilers. 
  • Ability to use specialized tools to troubleshoot then diagnose faculty components for repair or replacement. 
  • Perform regular preventive maintenance, such as filter replacement, fluid changes, water treatment, lubrications, ect. 
  • Ability to utilize computers and handhelds to remotely monitor and adjust building environment conditions. 
  • Assist other trades; and division when needed.

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES 

  • Ability to perform manual tasks requiring moderate strength. 
  • Ability to safely and correctly use machines and specialized tools for repair and maintenance. 
  • Working knowledge of building materials and their applications. 
  • Good communication and interpersonal skills. 
  • Good problem solving and diagnostic ability 
  • Ability to work in cramped spaces, inherently dirty locations, excessive heat, outdoors in a variety of weather and wet conditions.  
  • Available for after-hour emergencies as may occur from time to time. 
  • Must have and maintain a valid Ohio driver’s license and be insurable through the University’s carrier.
