Jackie Bradshaw ’25 Captures Bronze in U.S. Open Pickleball Championships

Muskingum University student Jackie Bradshaw ’25 captured the bronze medal in the singles bracket at 2023 Minto U.S. Open Pickleball Championships in Naples, Florida. More than 3,000 pickleball players of all ages competed in the April 15-22 tournament.

Jackie is a music education major and a student-athlete on the Fighting Muskies tennis team.

Dr. Caroline Christoff Selected for Philosophy Institute and Curriculum Grant

Muskingum University Assistant Professor of Philosophy Dr. Caroline Christoff has been selected to attend the Council of Independent College’s New Currents in Teaching Philosophy Institute.

She is one of only 33 faculty members across the country chosen for the Institute through a competitive application process.

Dr. Christoff’s participation in the Institute includes a $1,000 grant to support new curricular initiatives in philosophy at Muskingum.

Muskingum University alumna Gretchen Williams Romanowski ’67 authored a children’s picture book “Maddie and the Virus: A Young Girl Navigates Life During the Pandemic,” illustrated by Mike Rosado. 

The uplifting story of Maddie’s journey is designed to provide helpful ideas for children and their families living through challenging times.

Dr. David Turrill Leads 100th Anniversary Season of Zanesville Memorial Concert Band

Muskingum University Associate Professor of Music Dr. David Turrill will lead this summer’s 100th Anniversary Season of the Zanesville Memorial Concert Band. Dr. Turrill serves as Artistic Director of the group, which performs a five-concert summer season annually. Members of the group are local professional and amateur musicians, including many Muskingum alumni, faculty and staff, and students. Kelley Ryan ’75 is the Assistant Director.

Day of Giving 2023

Muskies and Friends ALL IN for Record-Breaking Day of Giving

Muskingum University alumni and friends were “ALL IN” for the 5th Annual Day of Giving, held for 1837 minutes on March 14-15, 2023.

The event raised $105,626, contributed by 297 donors, with an average gift of $355. The total funds contributed and average gift size both set new records for the Day of Giving, and the total number of donors ranks in second place in the Day of Giving record book. Forty of the donors were first-time contributors to Muskingum.

Vibrant Performances and Exhibits Energize Campus

The final weeks of Muskingum University’s Spring 2023 semester were highlighted with vibrant performances and the annual Senior Art Exhibition.

The April 30 “Spring Pops Concert” featured the Muskingum University Wind Ensemble and the Muskingum Valley Symphonic Winds. The program included selections from John Williams, video games, and a jazz set with applied voice faculty member Stacey Russell Welker ’16 and community musicians Len Thomas ‘52, George DeLancey, and Bill Armstrong.

Research Week Showcases Student Work

Muskingum University’s Undergraduate Research and Scholarship Week showcased student work and presented the annual Homer A. Anderson lecture to the campus community.

The James R. Bradford Colloquium on April 17 in Boyd Science Center featured graduating seniors delivering oral presentations on their capstone scholarship. Ten students selected by the faculty represented Biology, Chemistry, Communication Media & Theatre, Geology, History, Molecular Biology, Neuroscience, Psychology, Sociology, and the co-curricular forensics program.

Faculty Awards Announced

Muskingum University announced the 2023 Faculty Awards honorees during the annual Celebration of Excellence ceremony on Friday, April 14.

Muskingum’s faculty awards were first bestowed in 1895. Faculty members are nominated by their peers, and the honorees are selected by the prior year’s award recipients.

Celebrating May Commencement

Muskingum University held its May undergraduate and graduate Commencement ceremony on Saturday, May 6 at the Steele Center.  Members of the Class of 2023 received Bachelor of Arts, Bachelor of Science, Bachelor of Science in Nursing, Master of Arts in Education, Master of Arts in Teaching, and Master of Business Information Systems degrees.
