Laudations is an online collection spotlighting the professional contributions Muskingum University faculty and staff make to their respective disciplines.

On April 11, Muskingum University was honored as Second Runner-Up at the Fiscal Challenge. Students joined five other undergraduate teams from across the country in the nation’s capital to compete in the 2025 Fiscal Challenge Finals, a national economics competition that tasks students with developing comprehensive, data-driven policy proposals to stabilize the U.S. debt-to-GDP ratio over the long term.

Students and faculty gathered as Muskingum University kicked of their annual research and scholarship week hosted by the Division of Natural, Applied, and Health Sciences. The week displays the achievements of students, highlighting their academics and innovative quality. The event brought scholars from several disciplines to present their research, share ideas, and celebrate the spirit of discovery that defines Muskingum.

Muskingum University senior Marissa H. Blauch has been recognized with the 2025 Charles J. Ping Student Service Award. It is a prestigious honor presented by the Community Campus Coalition to undergraduates who demonstrate outstanding leadership and commitment to community service. Thirteen students across the state of Ohio were honored with this annual award, which illustrates the significance of the contributions of those who prioritize service-oriented outlets.  

Muskingum University, in partnership with its Counseling Services, hosted mental health speaker Ivy Watts on March 31. A former All-American student-athlete who now speaks publicly about mental health, Watts delivered a talk titled “It’s Okay to Not Be Okay,” which focused on tools for self-care, mental wellness, and resilience.

Students in Muskingum University’s Sport Management program got to experience firsthand what it means to be a part of the action in the sports industry. From participating in the NCAA Final Four festivities to attending a professional sporting event, these trips gave them a look inside of the world they plan to enter.

Muskingum University offers students a wide range of opportunities to get involved and make a meaningful impact on campus. Among these, Greek organizations play a key role in serving both the university and the wider community. During the 2024–2025 academic year, each organization demonstrated its unique contributions through significant service and engagement efforts.

As Muskingum University’s Spring 2025 semester came to a close, the campus celebrated excellence through three annual ceremonies recognizing achievements in academics, leadership, and athletics.

On April 11, the Celebration of Excellence was held in Brown Chapel to recognize exceptional academic success. Dr. Kristen DeBoise delivered the keynote address. President Susan Hasseler honored the Class of 2025 co-valedictorians: Slade Bee ’25, Jacquelynn Grinnell ’25, Alexandra Huck ’24, Kyra Kiessling ’25, Kara Loader ’25, Brock Pfister ’25, and Samuel Vansickle ’25.

Muskingum’s Impact Center serves as a career catalyst for students and as a connector for employers, providing comprehensive career education, experiential learning, community partnerships, and student engagement in preparation for employment as well as support for regional workforce and economic development initiatives.
