Health Science Degree: What You’ll Study

Muskingum’s 30-credit health science major combines coursework in healthcare, communication, statistics, informatics and pathophysiology. You’ll examine the American healthcare system, develop skills in health communication and promotion, and build a stronger understanding of health data and disease processes.

Core and foundational courses include Statistics for the Health Sciences, Health Communication and Promotion, Health Informatics, Pathophysiology and Seminar in Health Science. Electives allow you to explore related topics such as human genetics, nutrition and health, human anatomy and physiology, abnormal psychology, motor learning, strength and conditioning, and legal issues in healthcare.

HOW LONG DOES IT TAKE TO COMPLETE THE HEALTH SCIENCE DEGREE?

Most students complete the program in 12-18 months. Your completion time will depend on the number of credits you transfer and the number of courses you take each session.

Is the Bachelor of Science in Health Science fully online?

Yes. The program is 100% online and asynchronous, giving you 24/7 access to course materials. There are no required campus visits.

Can I continue working while completing the program?

Yes. The flexible online format is designed for working adults. Students may take as few as one course during each eight-week session.

Are labs or clinical experiences required?

No. The program does not include required labs or clinical experiences and can be completed entirely online.

WHAT ARE THE ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS?

Applicants must have an Associate of Science degree in an allied health field or at least 60 semester hours from a regionally accredited institution. Official transcripts must also be submitted with the online application.

Will my previous college credits transfer?

Credits earned at regionally accredited institutions will be evaluated for potential transfer toward your Bachelor of Science in Health Science. A personalized degree evaluation will identify your remaining requirements.
