Jane Varley has been teaching at Muskingum University since the fall of 2000. Her central teaching specialty is creative writing, and she also has a passion for other areas of literary studies, especially sports literature and nature writing. Her teaching interests are reflected in her research and creative expression. She writes non-fiction and poetry using imagery connected to her experiences of travel and the outdoors. Dr. Varley has published three books, Flood Stage and Rising, Sketches at the Naesti Bar, and You Must Play to Win!, which was a project with legendary Muskingum University softball coach Donna Newberry. Dr. Varley is the advisor to First Circle literary magazine and assists students in organizing creative writing events and writing retreats.
