Important Notice

Middle Childhood Licensure – The temporary option for licensing in only one Middle Childhood content area will sunset June 30, 2019. Any student applying for a Middle Childhood license on or after July 1, 2019, must meet all licensure requirements (including exams) for two content areas. The temporary single-content area option was established in 2013 with the implementation of the new middle grades licensure content exams to provide transition time to the two content area requirement. The middle grades exams have also been realigned to the grades 4-9 content.

Praxis Exams – Pearson’s Evaluation Systems group became the provider of educator licensure exams in 2013. Effective July 1, 2019, the Department will no longer accept Praxis exams completed for licensure programs if the licensure candidate did not also receive the correlating license. Any candidate who passed Praxis licensure exams but was never issued the correlating license must meet current Ohio licensure exam requirements when applying for an Ohio license on or after July 1, 2019. Please note that candidates seeking licensure for School Audiologist, School Psychologist or School Speech-Language Pathologist, will still use the Praxis exam required for licensure.
