Competing in Muskingum University’s first virtual National Comprehensive Forensics Tournament, Elizabeth Nease ’21 earned a 10th place national ranking and Taylor Blakeman ’24 and Alyssa Taylor ’23 earned a 21st place national ranking.

The National Comprehensive Forensics Tournament took place from March 18-21, 2021. It was hosted by the intercollegiate speech honorary Pi Kappa Delta in synchronous (live) and asynchronous (recorded) rounds of competition through virtual speaking platforms.

Muskingum University student Tanner Gensler ’23, a volunteer assistant basketball coach for his high school alma mater Upper St. Clair (Pittsburgh, PA), led the USC team as Interim Coach to a state quarterfinal win with only 6 players due to COVID-19.

The COVID-19 outbreak during the week prior to the March 20, 2021 game also caused the WPIAL Champion Upper St. Clair team to be without their head coach and three assistants for the quarterfinal.  

A virtual storytellers panel, “Speaking Globally: Real Stories,” was recently hosted by Muskingum University Forensics, the Arts and Humanities Division, World Languages, and Special Events. 

The panel featured faculty, staff, and students sharing their experiences speaking a second (or more) language.  It was emceed by Rachel Pollock, Assistant Professor of Communication and Director of Forensics.

Twenty-six artworks from Muskingum University’s permanent collection were on exhibit in Palmer Gallery from March 3-18, 2021.

The works included six Paul Patton “Rix Mills Remembered” paintings. Folk artist Paul Patton, 1921-1999, was a native of the Muskingum County village of Rix Mills, Ohio, and his works recall life there in the 1920s and 1930s.

Muskingum University’s Natural, Applied, and Health Science (NAHS) Division newsletter recently featured the accomplishments of  two alumni, neuroscience graduate Dr. Margot Kossman Williams ’07 and nursing graduate Karissa Knox ’14.

Athletics:

Muskingum University alumna Hannah Houser ’17 was recently recognized for her work ministering to the deaf community, as she pursues her religious vocation.

In a profile by The Catholic Telegraph, Hannah reflected on her call to serve. She is an Associate with the Sisters of St. Francis, Oldenburg, and is currently in discernment on her path to join the order.
