HELPFUL INFORMATION

APPLYING FOR FINANCIAL AID

Most financial aid begins with completing the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). The FAFSA determines eligibility for federal loans, grants, and some scholarships. We recommend completing the FAFSA at least one month before enrolling.

How to apply for financial aid:

  1. Complete the FAFSA at fafsa.gov
  2. List Muskingum University as a school on your application
  3. Submit the FAFSA by the recommended deadline

Complete the FAFSA

Financial aid eligibility may be affected by how much federal aid you used during a previous degree. The Financial Aid Office can help you understand your remaining eligibility.

REVIEWING YOUR FINANCIAL AID OFFER

Once your FAFSA is processed and you are registered in courses, Muskingum will prepare a financial aid offer outlining the types of aid available to you.

How to review your offer:

  1. Log into MuskieLink (Student Access Portal)
  2. Review your financial aid package
  3. Accept or decline offered aid as instructed

Your offer may include loans, grants, or other funding sources based on eligibility. Your financial aid for future semesters is based on an expected enrollment status. If your actual enrollment differs from what was assumed, your financial aid eligibility will be adjusted accordingly.

GRANTS & SCHOLARSHIPS

Some adult and graduate students may qualify for:

  • Federal or state grants (if eligible)
  • Program-specific or external scholarships
  • Workforce or employer-related funding

Availability varies by program and enrollment status. Scholarship opportunities are posted as they become available.

FEDERAL STUDENT LOANS

Federal loans are available to many graduate and adult students and typically offer:

  • Fixed interest rates
  • Flexible repayment options
  • Deferment while enrolled at least half-time

Before loans can be disbursed, students must complete required loan counseling and promissory notes. The amount eligible will be listed on your aid offer.

WHEN FINANCIAL AID IS APPLIED

Financial aid is applied to your student account after:

  • Enrollment is confirmed
  • All required documents are submitted
  • Loan amounts are accepted and requirements are completed

Funds are applied to tuition and fees first. Any remaining balance is refunded according to University policy.
