On the evening of Feb. 3, power went out on the Muskingum University campus for 26 hours. The winter storm that crossed the Midwest, blanketed the campus with freezing rain, ice and snow, which resulted in the loss of power.
How did Muskingum University weather the storm?
At the start of each winter season, Muskingum’s emergency management team reviews the plans for canceling or delaying classes or closing campus because of inclement weather. Throughout the season, the team closely monitors the forecast and potential impact to campus to make those decisions.
Muskingum University’s student organizations have taken initiative to celebrate both Black History Month and Women’s History Month.
Black Student Union (BSU) planned a variety of events during February to celebrate and bring awareness to Black history. Events included Black History Trivia, a basketball game support night, Martin Luther King Reflection Walk, Brewed Awakenings and a karaoke night.
On Jan. 28-29, 2022, three novice competitors – Rita (Hope) Craft, Madison Humphrey, and Tyler Reed – contributed to a first-place ranking for Muskingum University in the state of Ohio at the Ohio University 1804 and Ohio Forensic Association Novice State Championship “live” virtual speech and debate tournament.
On behalf of the Ohio Forensics Association, this hybrid virtual tournament hosted by Ohio University offered both asynchronous and live rounds of competition in 12 individual events and International Public Debate Association (IPDA) debate.
This semester, history major Donny Wilkinson is conducting research on the life of Nelson T. Gant, one of Zanesville’s most remarkable citizens. The Gant Foundation has enlisted Wilkinson to conduct research in the Muskingum County Deed records, to help them get a fuller picture of Nelson T. Gant’s property acquisitions over his lifetime.
