New Micro-Credentials Teach In-Demand Skills

Micro-credentials are providing enhanced learning opportunities for students, and this academic year, faculty launched two new micro-credentials: Statistics in Excel and Computer-Aided Design.

Statistics in Excel equips students with job-ready skills in statistical analysis and data presentation using Microsoft Excel. The micro-credential is structured around the skill areas of Data Management, Descriptive Statistics, Inferential Statistics, Data Visualization, and Data Presentation. Developed by Professor Jason Kehrberg, the five modules are structured around skill areas ideal for students pursuing careers in law enforcement, government, non-profits, and research.

The Computer-Aided Design (CAD) micro-credential provides the opportunity for students to learn professional-level design and drafting skills using industry-standard software. With hands-on projects and expert guidance from Professor Yingxiao Song, students gain more than just technical knowledge, they walk away with proof of their skills. Whether students are planning a career in engineering, manufacturing, design, or tech, the CAD program gives them the tools to stand out and opens the door to over 22,000 job opportunities.

Students receive digital badges upon completion of each module and must complete all modules to earn the micro-credential, which is signified with a digital “super badge”. They can add the digital badges to their resumes as well as LinkedIn and other social media profiles.

Students can learn about each micro-credential on a new website – www.muskingum.edu/academics/micro-credentials – that provides information on all available programs.
