Choral Leadership Day
Muskingum’s Choral Leadership Day is a workshop for high school singers and their choral directors to sing and learn quality choral music under the leadership of master conductors.
The 2018 Choral Leadership day will be Friday, October 12 from 9:00 am to 4:00 pm, with clinicians Hilary Apfelstadt, James Gallagher, and Zebulon Highben. High school choral directors are invited to attend with up to eight of their students (one or two SATB quartets).
The clinicians will introduce six pieces of engaging choral music in large-group rehearsals. Sectional rehearsals will give students the opportunity to enhance sight-reading techniques and musicianship skills. Directors may nominate individual students to receive a free private lesson with a member of Muskingum’s voice faculty. Directors may elect to participate in a conducting-teaching masterclass with the clinicians. The day will conclude with a “mini-concert” featuring the Muskingum Concert Choir, followed by a full-group performance of the repertoire learned during the day.
The participation fee ($120 per quartet) includes a music packet for each student and lunch in Muskingum’s beautifully renovated Patton Dining Hall. Directors receive a complimentary music packet, and will enjoy a catered lunch with the clinicians in the Palmer Art Gallery.
Choral Leadership Day is limited to 160 singers. Please reserve a spot for your quartet(s) by submitting the Registration Form no later than Wednesday, October 3. Confirmation emails will be sent by Friday, October 5. Singers will be accepted in the order in which responses are received.
Choral Leadership Day is endorsed by the Ohio Choral Directors Association.
