Muskingum Valley Youth Wind Ensemble Announced
Muskingum Youth Wind Ensemble

Muskingum University’s Department of Music announced that it will launch the inaugural Muskingum Valley Youth Wind Ensemble (MVYWE) in January 2024.

The MVYWE will provide talented high school wind players and percussionists with opportunities to further develop their musical skills.

The high school students will work with Muskingum faculty and students in two rehearsals each month, held on Sunday afternoons starting Jan. 7, 2024.

On April 28, 2024, the MVYWE will perform in a shared concert with Muskingum bands in Brown Chapel.

The creation of the MVYWE builds on the Music Department’s more than 30-year tradition of hosting high school students in youth performance events. Choral and Instrumental YouthFests bring high school students nominated by their music directors to campus each year for rehearsals, classes, and masterclasses with Muskingum faculty and students. The experience concludes with a performance by the YouthFest musicians. This year’s Choral YouthFest was held on Nov. 4 and Instrumental YouthFest on Nov. 18. Additionally, on Oct. 11, the 2nd Annual String Fling brought two high school orchestras to campus to rehearse with Muskingum faculty and present a joint performance.
