Celebrate the Holidays at Muskingum
Holiday Festival

Muskingum University invites you to celebrate the holidays with members of the campus community during three special events.

November 29, 2022: Celebration of Light

Tuesday, November 29, Muskingum University celebrates the annual lighting of its campus to welcome the holiday season.

The event begins at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday, November 29, in the Library’s McCalmont Colloquium Center. Muskingum University students will open the evening with music. The program will feature prayers, poetry, Scriptures, carols, and songs on the theme of light by Muskingum students, faculty, and staff, as they reflect on the meaning of light in their own faith traditions.

A candlelight procession outside to the Fountain for the lighting of the campus will celebrate light dispelling darkness and how it brings hope to the world.

Following the ceremony, all are invited back into the library to conclude the evening with hot chocolate and fellowship.

All on campus and in the surrounding community are welcome to attend the event and to walk or drive throughout the campus to enjoy the lights. The lights will remain lit until January 2023.

December 1, 2022: SEOSO Holiday Pops

The Southeastern Ohio Symphony Orchestra (SEOSO) will present its traditional Holiday Pops Concert on Thursday, December 1 at 7:00 p.m. in Zanesville’s Secrest Auditorium.

SEOSO is directed by Professor of Music Laura Schumann and is comprised of Muskingum students, faculty, and staff, and regional community members.

This year’s concert features a wide variety of classic holiday favorites from Charlie Brown to the Grinch to Mannheim Steamroller’s “Stille Nacht,” as well as a guest guitar soloist in Trans-Siberian Orchestra selections. John Glenn High School’s “String Sounds” strolling string ensemble will provide the concert’s prelude music and will join the orchestra on stage for the finale number, Leroy Anderson’s “Sleigh Ride.”  Brian Wagner ’89, CEO of the Muskingum Community Foundation, will serve as the program’s host.

The concert is free and open to the public. For more information and SEOSO’s Spring 2023 concert schedule, visit SEOSO.
