New Prout Family Creative Awards Bestowed at Celebration of Excellence

Muskingum University bestowed the inaugural Prout Family Creative Awards at the annual Celebration of Excellence ceremony, which recognizes students for academic achievements and student life contributions.

Created by Dr. Robert ’66 and Susan Prout, the two Prout Family Creative Awards honor academic and creative achievement by students in the literary and visual arts. The awards assist the students financially and provide significant academic recognition to support their pursuit of careers or graduate education.

The inaugural recipient of the Prout Family Creative Writing Award in Literary Arts is Vallie Congrove ’21 and the inaugural recipient of the Prout Family Creative Writing Award in Visual Arts is Hannah Wilson ’22.  Their winning works were published in the University’s student-produced First Circle literary magazine.

The Celebration of Excellence Ceremony on April 23, 2021, also recognized the recipients of:

  • Awards from each of the University’s academic departments

  • Student Innovation Awards

  • Muskie Fellows for summer student-faculty original research projects

  • President’s List (cumulative G.P.A. of 3.9 or better), Dean’s List (semester G.P.A. of 3.6 or better for full-time students), and Academic Merit (semester G.P.A. of 3.6 or better for part-time students)

  • Induction into University-wide honor societies of Phi Kappa Phi, Omicron Delta Kappa, and Lambda Sigma

  • Magnus Leadership Awards for Contributions to Campus Life

  • GPA Leaders in Varsity Athletics and Greek Life

The ceremony also included reflections from Associate Professor of English, Dr. Kekoa Kaluhiokalani, the 2020 recipient of the University’s Excellence in Teaching Award.
