Muskingum University is offering all courses in the Gifted Endorsement and the Reading Endorsement programs this summer.

The Gifted Endorsement program is a 19-credit hour program and fully accredited by the Ohio Department of Education. It will be offered in five, one-week online classes along with the opportunity to complete fieldwork in a one-week summer experience at Muskingum.

“This program will qualify licensed teachers to serve one of most underserved student populations – talented and gifted – in Ohio’s K-12 schools. Educators will learn strategies and instructional skills to effectively work with this group of aspiring students,” said Nancy Bradley, director of graduate and continuing studies for educator preparation.

The Reading Endorsement program is as 12-credit hour program and fully accredited by the Ohio Department of Education. It will be offered in four, 2-week online classes. The program will begin on June 10 and conclude August 2, and the accreditation will be granted in time for the 2019-2020 academic year.

“Hundreds of educators have completed Muskingum’s Reading Endorsement program,” said Bradley. “By building upon the strengths of that existing program, we are pleased to now offer the program online, allowing more accessibility and flexibility.”

According to Bradley, this program is perfect for recent teacher graduates because many school districts are looking for this credential when hiring and adding this endorsement will enhance employment opportunities for new teachers.
