Honoring Scholarship and Leadership
Co-Valedictorians

Muskingum University honored student scholarship and leadership achievements with the Celebration of Excellence Awards and the Magnus Awards ceremonies.

The Celebration of Excellence Awards, held on April 14, 2023, recognized outstanding academic achievements. Dr. Michelle Oyakawa, Assistant Professor of Sociology and the 2022 recipient of the William Rainey Harper Award for Outstanding Scholarship, delivered the keynote address.

Student honorees included:

  • Class of 2023 Co-Valedictorians, each of whom earned a cumulative 4.0 G.P.A.: Ethan Ford ’23, Oliver Rogers ’23, and Ashton Romero ’23

  • Summer Muskie Fellows who completed hands-on original research in partnership with Muskingum faculty members during the summer of 2022

  • John and Annie Glenn Public Service Fellows

  • David and Karin Kratoville Innovation Fellows

  • Academic Department Award Recipients

  • President’s List Scholars, full-time students who earned a 3.90 or higher G.P.A.

  • Dean’s List Scholars, full-time students who earned a 3.60 to 3.89 G.P.A.

  • Academic Merit Scholars, part-time students who earned a 3.60 or above G.P.A.

  • Varsity Athletic Teams with the highest average G.P.A.: Women’s Esports with 3.69 and Men’s Archery with 3.18

  • Greek Organizations with the highest average G.P.A.: Phi Kappa Psi fraternity and Theta Phi Alpha sorority, both with 3.43

  • 2023 inductees into the national multi-disciplinary honor societies Omicron Delta Kappa and Lambda Sigma

The Magnus Awards were held on April 12, 2023, recognizing leadership by students, student organizations, and educators whose efforts create a campus environment of dynamic engagement.

  • Student Leader of the Year: Olivia Lehman ’25

  • Muskie Impact Service: Kylie Pace-Schilling ’24

  • Unsung Student Hero: Kaitlynne Peters ’25

  • Emerging Leader: Marysa Starcher ’26

  • Student Committed to Diversity and Inclusion: Donovan Wilkinson ’24

  • East Hill Resident Assistant of the Year: Peyton Carr ’25

  • West Hill Resident Assistant of the Year: Spencer Carr ’25

  • Greek Member of the Year: Hailey Wilson ’24

  • Recreational Staff Member of the Year: Jamar Hicks ’24

  • Staff Member of the Year: Linda Hatfield, Educational Support Specialist

  • Campus Program of the Year: Haunted Hollow presented by Phi Kappa Psi

  • Outstanding Student Organization: Student Senate

  • Outstanding Fraternity or Sorority: Phi Kappa Tau

  • Student Organization Advisor of the Year: Brian King, Associate Professor of Political Science
