Dr. Vicki Wilson to speak at Graduate Ceremony

Dr. Vicki A. Wilson, a leader in the field of teacher education, will serve as the principal speaker at Muskingum University’s 26th Graduate Commencement ceremony on Thursday, May 3, the University announced today. During the 7:00 p.m. ceremony, Muskingum will grant Education Specialist, Master of Arts in Education, Master of Arts in Teaching, and Master of Information Strategy, Systems and Technology degrees.

“Dr. Wilson has had a significant impact on Muskingum University’s teacher education program as well as on K-12 education throughout the state of Ohio and across the nation,” said Muskingum University President Susan S. Hasseler. “We are delighted that she is returning to our campus to address this year’s graduate degree recipients.”

Dr. Wilson helped launch Muskingum’s Master of Arts in Teaching degree program and multiple new licensure areas, including those in educational leadership. Nationally, she helped create and implement the Welcoming Schools Initiative of the International Alliance for Invitational Education (IAIE).

A member of the Muskingum University faculty from 1996-1999 and from 2002-2007, Dr. Wilson served as Professor of Education, Associate Dean of Academic Affairs for Teacher Education, Education Department Chair, and coordinator for Muskingum’s teacher program accreditation through NCATE, the National Council for Accreditation of Teacher Education.

Since 2007, she has served on the Board of Trustees for the International Alliance for Invitational Education (IAIE), chaired the Welcoming Schools Committee, and co-chaired the National Conference of the IAIE.

Recognized by her peers with the Ohio Association of Teacher Educators Distinguished Service Award, Dr. Wilson is the author of multiple publications and a frequent conference presenter and guest lecturer.

She has served as a trainer for teacher and principal evaluation systems for the Ohio Department of Education and has most recently taught in the University of Dayton’s Woodrow Wilson Scholars Program for math and science professionals earning teacher licensure.

She earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in English from the University of Dayton, a Master of Business Administration degree in Business/Government Relations from American University, and a Doctor of Philosophy degree in Educational Administration from the University of Southern Mississippi.

Dr. Wilson is a native of Wilmington, Ohio, where she currently resides. She is the Vice President of the Wilmington City Schools Foundation Board of Trustees.
