Student Wellness and Spiritual Care: Staying Connected
Julia Wright and WIll Mullins in the WMCO studio getting ready to record chapel

From online chapel services to stress management tips and mental health check-ins, multiple outreach efforts are helping Muskingum University students stay engaged virtually with counselors, mentors, and each other.

Counseling Services is sharing daily "Counseling Connections" emails with all faculty, staff, and students, offerings tips on how to manage, stress, anxiety, routines, transition, and overall wellness.  Director of Counseling Services Tracy Bugglin and her staff are also reaching out directly to students they have worked with this year, and remaining connected with them through emails and calls.

Chaplain for Student Affairs Rev. Julia Wright and University Chaplain Rev. Dr. Will Mullins, in cooperation with Associate Professor of Communication and Director of Broadcasting Dr. Lisa Marshall, are presenting the weekly Chapel Services virtually for the duration of the semester.

Services are archived to SoundCloud and broadcast live on the  WMCO Listen-Live page or on the WMCO App, in order to reach a wide audience of students, staff, community members, and alumni.

“People have big questions in times like this, and they frequently turn to their religion and faith for comfort and answers,” Rev. Wright noted. “It’s also important to maintain some sense of normalcy and schedule in times of great changes and stress, and keeping our Thursdays at 11:00 a.m. time slot can help people feel like some things are still predictable and safe.”

A new segment has been added to the service called “Ask a Chaplain.”  Questions can be submitted and Rev. Wright - julias@muskingum.edu - and Rev. Mullins - wmullins@muskingum.edu - are available by email.  Rev. Wright is also continuing by email her Tuesday "Believe It, or Not" reflection series, which explores diverse spiritual practices from across traditions and around the globe.
