Athletics Appoints New Coaches

Muskingum University has welcomed several new coaches to the Athletics Department.

Corey Kirk has been named Head Coach of Men’s Soccer. Coach Kirk most recently served as assistant men’s soccer coach at Ohio Wesleyan University, where he helped lead the nationally ranked team to back-to-back NCAA Tournaments and a North Coast Athletic Conference (NCAC) Tournament Championship and was a 2022 NCAC Coaching Staff of the Year honoree. He has also served as the head coach of the Boys U19 ECNL-RL squad for the Ohio Premier Soccer Club in Plain City, as associate head coach at New Albany High School, and as head coach at Watkins Memorial High School. Coach Kirk earned a Bachelor of Arts degree Magna Cum Laude in communication studies from Ohio Dominican University, where he was a captain and four-year starter on the nationally ranked men’s soccer team.

Nehemiah Bowie ’21 returns to Muskingum as Football Defensive Coordinator. Most recently, he served Denison University as defensive backs coach, special teams coordinator, and assistant recruiting coordinator, helping the team achieve a top-three total defense ranking in the North Coast Athletic Conference (NCAC), and top NCAC special teams rankings in kick return, punt return average, and kick-off net average. As a Muskingum student-athlete, he was a football captain and four-year letterwinner, playing defensive back, linebacker, and on the special teams unit, and receiving All-Ohio Athletic Conference (OAC) athletic accolades and All-OAC academic honors. He earned his Muskingum bachelor's degree in business Magna Cum Laude and served as Vice President of the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee and President of the Black Student Union.

Madison Clayton has been appointed Volleyball Assistant Coach. She comes to Muskingum from West Liberty University, where she served as a volleyball program graduate assistant and was a standout volleyball student-athlete as an undergraduate. She earned her bachelor’s degree in athletic training and accumulated multiple athletic awards from the American Volleyball Coaches Association, Division II Conference Commissioners Association, and the All-Mountain East Conference. She also serves as a coach for the Club Gold South volleyball program of St. Clairsville, Ohio.
