Have questions about Muskingum University's Accelerated Bachelor of Science in Nursing Program?

What are the admission requirements?
Applicants must hold a bachelor’s degree in a non-nursing field with a minimum 2.7 GPA. Transfer coursework may be evaluated for GPA and credit.


Can I apply if I’m already an RN?
No. The ABSN is for students with a bachelor’s in another field who are not registered nurses. Licensed RNs should consider Muskingum’s RN-to-BSN program.


What prerequisites are required?
Applicants must complete the following (sciences within 10 years, grade C or higher):

  • Anatomy & Physiology I and II with labs
  • Microbiology with lab
  • Chemistry with lab
  • Nutrition
  • Statistics

Transfer credit is accepted if coursework is from an accredited institution. Courses may be repeated for a higher grade.


Where can I take prerequisites?
At Muskingum (many available online) or any accredited college. Always confirm transferability with the Registrar’s Office before enrolling elsewhere.


How do I apply?
Applications are reviewed on a rolling basis and must be submitted by June 30 for fall enrollment. Submit your application, transcripts, and a $50 non-refundable deposit upon acceptance. How long is the program?
The ABSN is a full-time, lockstep program completed in 15 months (4 consecutive semesters, starting fall).


How many credit hours are required?
68 credit hours.


What is the course load like?
Students typically take 15–18 credit hours per semester, including classroom, lab, and clinical work.


Can I attend part-time?
No. The ABSN is a full-time, accelerated program.


Where are classes and labs held?
On campus in New Concord, Ohio.


Where do clinicals take place?
In New Concord and surrounding areas (Zanesville, Cambridge, Newark). Pediatric rotations are held at Nationwide Children’s Hospital in Columbus.


Can I work while in the program?
Working is discouraged due to the program’s intensity, though some students manage limited hours. Discuss with your advisor.


How is the program structured?
The ABSN uses a hybrid format:

  • Online and in-person coursework
  • In-person classes and labs on campus
  • Clinical rotations with partner healthcare sites


What is the cost?
Tuition is $515 per credit hour, plus fees for labs and assessments.
