Below are answers to common questions about Muskingum’s online Accelerated BSN program.
Muskingum’s ABSN Program is a cohort-based program that begins each fall. Applications are accepted year-round, and students are encouraged to apply early to secure a spot in the upcoming cohort. To be considered for fall admission to the ABSN program, applications must be submitted by June 30.
The program follows a hybrid format:
Applicants must hold a bachelor’s degree in a non-nursing field with a minimum 2.7 GPA. Transfer coursework may be evaluated for GPA and credit toward prerequisites.
No. The Accelerated BSN (ABSN) program is designed for students who hold a bachelor’s degree in another discipline and are not licensed RNs. If you are already an RN, you may be eligible for Muskingum’s RN-to-BSN program.
To be eligible for Muskingum University’s Accelerated Bachelor of Science in Nursing (ABSN) program, the following prerequisite courses must be completed before starting the program. Science coursework should be completed within the past 10 years.

You may complete prerequisite courses at any regionally accredited institution, but for convenience and continuity, all Muskingum prerequisite courses are offered 100% online—making it easy to stay on track and prepare for program entry.
Important: All prerequisites must be completed before you begin the ABSN cohort.
Prerequisites may be completed at Muskingum University (many available online) or any accredited college. Always confirm transferability with the Registrar’s Office before enrolling elsewhere.
Applications are reviewed on a rolling basis and must be submitted by June 30, 2026, for fall 2026 enrollment. Applicants must provide official transcripts in the online application.
The Accelerated BSN program is a full-time, lockstep program completed in 15 months (4 consecutive semesters) starting each fall.
The ABSN program requires 68 credit hours beyond prerequisite coursework.
Students typically complete 15–18 credit hours per semester, including online coursework, labs, and clinical rotations.
No. The Accelerated BSN is a full-time, intensive program and cannot be completed on a part-time basis.
In-person classes and labs are held on Muskingum’s campus in New Concord, Ohio. Online coursework takes place on Canvas, our online learning platform.
Clinical rotations are held in New Concord and surrounding areas such as Zanesville, Cambridge, and Newark. Pediatric rotations take place at Nationwide Children’s Hospital in Columbus.
Due to the program’s intensity, full-time work is discouraged. Some students manage limited part-time hours, but this should be discussed with your advisor.
