Spanish Student Opportunities

Internships
Opportunities for Spanish students include:

  • English Teaching Assistantship, Universidad de Castilla La Mancha UCLM, Spain. This paid, year-long assistantship involves teaching English to UCLM students at one of the university’s four campuses: Albacete, Ciudad Real, Cuenca, or Toledo. Over the years, many Muskingum students have found this hands-on international experience to be a life-changing opportunity.
  • The department assists students in developing language-related internship experiences on and off campus, domestic and international.

Research
Students may arrange independent research projects (1-3 credit hours) to be conducted in Spanish.

Senior seminar research projects center on a specific area of Hispanic literature, culture, or international business.Research methodology and target-language writing and public presentation are emphasized. Furthermore, students are encouraged to present their research results at undergraduate research conferences.

Honoraries
Phi Sigma Iota is an honorary society for Muskingum students who excel in the study of languages, recognizing outstanding ability and high standards of students and faculty of foreign languages, literatures and cultures. It is the highest academic honor in the field of foreign languages. Phi Sigma Iota has initiated over 60,000 members since its foundation in 1917, and it has created and supports numerous scholarship programs. Phi Sigma Iota members may apply for scholarships for post-graduate study and travel.

Employment
The department employs one or two student office assistants annually.

Study Abroad
Muskingum University has an exchange program with the Blas Pascal University in Córdoba, Argentina and Universidad de Castilla La Mancha in Spain. (Albacete, Ciudad Real, Cuenca, or Toledo). Each year, Muskingum students may enroll for a semester or an academic year as full-time students in any of these universities.
