Pre-Optometry
Requirements
You must complete a major in addition to each schools' pre-requisite courses. Many students choose a major that requires courses that are part of the list of pre-requisites.
Be sure to examine the specific pre-requisites for the each school to which you plan to apply.
- Bio 111 & 107 and Bio 112 & 107 General biology with labs
- Chem 111 & Chem 112 General chemistry with labs
- Chem 213 & Chem 214 Organic chemistry with labs
- *For Pennsylvannia College of Optometry: 1 semester Organic Chemistry
- Chem 418 & Chem 419 biochemistry (this is required for Ohio State University)
- *For Pennsylvania College of Optometry: 1 semester of Biochemistry OR 1 semester Molecular Biology
- Phen 121 & Phen 122 General physics with labs
- Bio 312 Microbiology with labs
- Math 190 Calculus (Math 190 & Math 200 are highly recommended)
- The following courses are required by many Physician’s Assistant Programs: Chemistry 213: Organic Chemistry I & Chemistry 214: Organic Chemistry II; Chemistry 418/419: Biochemistry I or II
- Psych 101 Psychology
- Psych 232 Statistics
- English 121 Composition & an English Literature course
- Social science course
- Other humanities
