Gift To Make Things Real For the Muskie Investment Club
Thanks to a generous lead gift from Pat Fridley ’76 and other enthusiastic donors from the Investment Committee of the Board of Trustees, the Muskie Investment Club will now create investment strategies for a portfolio consisting of real money. Up until recently, the Club devised strategies for a theoretical portfolio – no more.
“Portfolios are not abstract. They represent important parts of near and long-term financial strategies upon which corporations and individuals rely to meet their business or personal goals,” states Dr. Arjun Sondhi, faculty advisor to the Club. “When you’ve got real skin in the game it changes everything.”
“As a donor/investor in the Muskie Investment Club, I have witnessed firsthand the thoroughness of the analytical thinking done by our students, and its impressive. Now that the Club is dealing with real assets, I believe it will transform their learning experience,” according to Pat Fridley. “I’m convinced this experience will position the students participating in the Club for great internships and those will in turn, will lead to high paying opportunities for our grads. We hope prospective students find the Muskie Investment Club as another reason they should consider Muskingum.”
The Muskie Investment Club is open to students from any academic discipline. Whether they are wanting to enter the Financial Services industry or simply want to understand more about investing, it is a great opportunity to learn more about how to make money work to support their goals. Students in the Club also get access to the collective wisdom of the members of the Investment Committee by regularly attending those meetings.
"Being able to expand my knowledge of investing and finance while connecting with others who share the same interests has been a great experience. I encourage anyone interested in investing to check out this club,” says Elijah Kuklica, an Economics and Accounting major graduating in Dec. '26 and outgoing president of the club.
The Muskie Investment Club has a dedicated space in the lower level of Cambridge Hall and will soon enjoy instantaneous access to market data and analytics when their space is outfitted with a subscription to financial analytics software. “We’re grateful to Pat Fridley for being the impetus that has transformed this club. Her contribution, both monetarily and with her time for students and creating research projects, has provided an invaluable experience for students,” said Dr. Sondhi. “As we say often, this is about to get real. And we could not be more excited!”
