Research Interests
Dr. Torres's active research interests center on historically-informed performance and language-guided articulative practices, aided by spectral analysis. Part of this research was conducted in Dijon, France and funded by a Sigma Alpha Iota National Career Grant. Subsequently, Dr. Torres was awarded the Peter A. Costanza Award. She has presented clinics and sessions as a scholar and at festivals as a performer at professional conferences including the Midwest Clinic, Ohio Music Educators Association, National Flute Association, Florida Flute Association, North American Saxophone Alliance, Navy Band Symposium, and the World Saxophone Congress.

Bio

Highly regarded as an educator, clinician, soloist, new music specialist, and chamber and orchestral flutist, Dr. Erin Helgeson Torres has performed and taught throughout the United States and abroad in Cuba, the United Kingdom, Spain, France, Austria, North Macedonia, Kosovo, Albania, China, and Canada. Aside from her teaching duties at Muskingum University, Dr. Torres is Artist Faculty of the Blue Lake Fine Arts Camp in Twin Lake, Michigan and Principal Flutist with the Lima Symphony Orchestra, Newark-Granville Symphony Orchestra, Worthington Chamber Orchestra and Queen City Opera. She is also Solo Flutist with the Columbus Ohio Discovery Ensemble (CODE), a contemporary music ensemble. Additionally, she performs in the flute/saxophone duet, Tower Duo, whose debut album, CROSSWIND, under the Ravello label for Parma Recordings was released in January 2019. 

Dr. Torres lives in Columbus, Ohio with her saxophonist husband, Michael, and their rescue ex-racer greyhound, Arwen, and loves working with students across all musical and educational disciplines.
