Newspaper staff earns three awards from the Society of Collegiate Journalists

Three Muskingum College students have won awards from the Society of Collegiate Journalists (SCJ) for their work on the college newspaper, The Black & Magenta.

Allison Hornyak '09 earned an honorable mention in feature writing for Overcoming Adversity.

Josh Chaney '10 won an honorable mention for front page design for the story Ike rips region.

Sarah Dwyer '09 won first place in the news photography category for Ike rips region.

The faculty advisor of The Black & Magenta is Assistant Professor of Journalism Dr. Vivian Wagner who, in 2006, received SCJ’s Sheridan Barker Advisor of the Year Award.

The SCJ is a national honor society of collegiate mass communications. Founded in 1909, it is the nation’s oldest organization designed solely to support students who wish to become journalists. The purpose of SCJ is to improve the practice of responsible journalism on the campus and to prepare students for professional careers after graduation.
