Friends of New Concord to Host 3rd Annual Community Day on Aug. 30
The Friends of New Concord (FONC) is hosting the 3rd annual New Concord Community Day on Saturday, Aug. 30 from 9 a.m. to 10 p.m. The community is invited to a full day of events and activities for the entire family. All events throughout the day include free admission, and there is no cost to participate in any games or activities.
The day starts with a Muskie Fun Run, a 1-mile run beginning at New Concord Elementary School. Registration is at 8:30 a.m. at the school, and the run begins at 9 a.m.
The Vendors’ Village is open from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., where more than 30 artisans will be selling a variety of locally made products from jewelry, clothing, and home décor to soaps, home-baked cookies and more. Artisans will be set up in the Genesis Primary Care parking lot.
There also will be a Kids’ Corner from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. with a variety of activities for kids including a coloring station, sidewalk chalk, and yard games. The following activities are scheduled throughout the day:
- 10 am-4 pm – Chalk basket, coloring station, Connect 4, Jenga, and a sandbox
- 11 am-1 pm – Petting farm (miniature ponies and goats)
- 12-1 pm – Touch a Truck (Village Police and Fire)
- 12-1 pm – Champion Athletics Dance performance
- 2-4 pm – NCAARD crafts
For lunch, Flying Naked Pig and the New Concord Board of Trade will be selling food from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Main Street. Crazy Kernel Kettle Corn Company and Tropical Hut Hawaiian Ice will be selling sweet treats for lunch and throughout the day.
From Noon-2 p.m. New Concord businesses with goods or services that would benefit students are opening their doors to Muskingum University students. This is an opportunity for University students to get to know the Village, and for the businesses to introduce themselves to students.
A Party in the Park runs from 3-10 p.m. at New Concord War Memorial Park. The event will have live music from Fly Ohio (3-5 p.m.) and Spelchek (6:30-10 p.m.) bands. There also will be a rock-climbing wall, trampolines, axe throwing, 9-hole putt putt golf, corn hole tournament, and other yard games.
For adults with a valid ID, there will be a beer and wine garden where Guernsey Brewhouse will be selling beer and the Friends of New Concord will be selling wine. For dinner, the following food trucks will be set up on Main Street: Flying Naked Pig, Hibachi Hut and Smoke Therapy Craft BBQ. The Cub Scouts also will be selling water and soda.
