Students selected for national experiences & summer fellowships

Muskingum students have been chosen for a variety of competitive summer internships and for 13 summer student-faculty research fellowships.

Students selected for highly, competitive national opportunities include Luke Lloyd '19 with CNBC; Levi Hall '19 with Phi Kappa Tau Fraternity’s National Headquarters, Camille Walker '18 with the Smithsonian Institution, and Parker Lee '19 with the Columbus Clippers minor league baseball team’s athletic training staff.

This year’s group of Summer Fellows includes nine Muskie Fellows, a Lovejoy Fellow, an Anderson Fellow, and two student fellowship experiences made possible by a local entrepreneurial company. Their projects span a wide variety of disciplines and research topics:

  • Regina Baker '19, Muskie Fellowship with Assistant Professor of Computer Science Jay Shaffstall: Facial and Vocal Recognition to Combat the Opioid Epidemic.
  • Emily Hoffman '20, Muskie Fellowship with Associate Professor of Chemistry Lois Zook-Gerdau: Water Quality of the Salt Creek Watershed.
  • Victoria Hupp '20, Muskie Fellowship with Associate Professor of History Karen Dunak: Role of Media in the 1960 Election of John F. Kennedy.
  • Aaron Uhrin '21, Muskie Fellowship with Assistant Professor of Engineering Elizabeth Azhikannickal: Effects of Printing and Cooling Processes on Dimensional Stability of 3D Printed Parts.
  • Elita Jones '20, Muskie Fellowship with Henry S. and Katherine W. Evans Director and Distinguished Librarian and Professor of Library Science Nainsi Houston: Increasing Accessibility of Archival Materials Using Digital Scanning.
  • Madison Leach '20, Muskie Fellowship with Assistant Professor of Computer Science Alisa Neeman: Application of Computer Vision and Machine Learning for Mineral Recognition.
  • Alexandra Huston '21, Muskie Fellowship with Professor of Economics Joe Nowakowski: Transitioning a Business Statistics Textbook to an Open Source Student Resource.
     
  • Colton Wilson '21, Muskie Fellowship; Taya Tichenell '22, Muskie Fellowship; Madison Sikorski '21, Lovejoy Fellowship; and Faith Swartz '21, Anderson Fellowship; with Bill and Martha Lovejoy Distinguished Professor in Biology Jim Dooley and Homer A. Anderson Distinguished Professor in the Natural Sciences Danny Ingold: Habitat Associations of Grassland Birds at the Wilds.
