Cheryl Carpenter serves as an Institutional Consulting Director for Graystone Consulting, a business of Morgan Stanley. Based in Columbus, she is one of the team leaders serving clients primarily in the Mid-West.
“Our team’s focus is on total enterprise consulting for institutional endowment, foundation, healthcare system, and pension clients,” Cheryl explains. “We work with them to establish and implement their investment objectives, policy, strategies, and related projects.”

“With COVID-19, we are all working remotely every day and replacing in-person meetings with phone calls and video meetings.  We have been very proactive in reaching out to our clients to help them think about how the financial market volatility is impacting their unique situations. Many of our clients’ financial and liquidity needs have changed because of the environment, and we advise them on how to manage their assets to meet both short- and long-term goals.”

“Investors are inundated right now with constantly changing financial and health-related news, and we are in a unique position to help them manage and understand that overwhelming information flow.  We provide them with the summaries and education they need to make critical financial decisions.”

“Our clients have a mission to serve a larger community.  It inspires me to be able to help them make progress on their missions, and to see the larger ripple effect and impact that makes on each of their communities.”

While at Muskingum, Cheryl was active in the Residence Life area as an RA, RD, and AD, served as a tour guide, played in the wind ensemble, worked in the business office, and served as the treasurer of her social club. “I was exposed to many facets of life, learned how to juggle multiple things and meet deadlines, while still learning how to belong and lead in the smaller communities within the campus,” Cheryl reflects. “These experiences prepared me to work alone and in teams, and how to find talent and look for the best in others as we work to solve issues and accomplish the greater good.”

Cheryl earned her Bachelor of Science degree with a double major in mathematics and business and later earned a Master of Business Administration degree from The Ohio State University.

She has served as the President of the Muskingum Alumni Council and as the Alumni Representative to the University’s Board of Trustees since 2018.  She and her husband Scott Carpenter ’88 reside in Granville, Ohio.
