TESOL Endorsement available this summer in Canton, Columbus
TSEOL

Muskingum University will be offering the TESOL (Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages) endorsement in two Ohio locations this summer.

Beginning June 3, the accelerated program will be offered in Canton and Columbus to provide educators the opportunity to add the credential by the start of the 2019-20 school year. In addition to earning the endorsement, the hours earned can be applied toward a master’s degree with all additional courses available online.

The endorsement is designed to provide educators with the knowledge and skills needed to effectively teach English as a second language and will gain experience by working directly with ELL students. Educators do not need to have knowledge of any foreign language.

“Our 7-week, innovative TESOL program was created to address the growing need for qualified educators to teach the growing population of EL students in Ohio” said Nancy Bradley, director of graduate and continuing studies for educator preparation.

Bradley explains that many of our schools lack credentialed TESOL teachers and the responsibility of educating EL students mainly falls to the regular classroom teachers who have little experience or background in teaching content to students who do not speak English as their first language.

For additional information about TESOL or to enroll in the program contact Nancy Bradley at 740-826-8038 or email at nbradley@muskingum.edu.
