Students Assist Residents with Tax Prep

As tax time approaches, Muskingum accounting students once again volunteered their Saturdays to provide free tax preparation workshops for area residents, offered through the United Way of Guernsey, Noble & Monroe Counties.

Twelve student volunteers completed the requirements to become “certified tax counselors” and are either currently enrolled in or have successfully completed Muskingum's Advanced Taxation course.

Working on four Saturdays from February 9 through March 2, the students assisted 64 families, saving more than $20,000 in tax preparation fees.

Muskingum University Vice President for Finance & Operations Philip E. Laube ’09 MISST, CPA, supervised the students’ work, with assistance from Kelsey Hague '18. While a Muskingum student, Ms. Hague volunteered in the tax workshops for three years and interned in Muskingum's Business Office. Stephanie Laube ’05 is the Executive Director of the United Way of Guernsey, Noble & Monroe Counties.
