Minute with a Muskie

Rio Hosoi
Class of '16
Rio Hosoi

Rio Hosoi is a four-year international student from Tokyo, Japan; he will graduate this May with a major in economics.

During his tenure at Muskingum, Rio played for the Fighting Muskies football team as a receiver. He says, “Being a football player was one of the biggest and greatest experiences I had [at] Muskingum. [Playing] with my teammates and coaches gave me a chance to be responsible not only as a player but also as a person.”

As an international student, Rio appreciated the small class sizes afforded him at Muskingum, and the opportunity to get to know his professors and to really participate in classes. Studying ESL (English as a Second Language) rounded out his curriculum and helped him in all of his classes, across the board.

Although he didn’t anticipate being highly involved in extracurriculars prior to arriving at Muskingum, Rio was very involved, as a member of the Philosophy Club, Muskingum Programming Board, and the Stag Club fraternity. He also served as the president of World Vision and the international student representative on Student Senate.

Although he was an international student at Muskingum, Rio also took the opportunity to study abroad in both France and Spain during his tenure as a student.
