Minute with a Muskie

Class of '11
Lindsey Hutchison

Lindsey Hutchison came to Muskingum from her hometown of Coshocton, Ohio. The 2011 graduate majored in political science and business.

Since graduating, Hutchison has worked for State Farm Insurance, earned her MBA and started her own photography business, where she photographs weddings, seniors and families.

At State Farm, Hutchison is currently a fire claims specialist responsible for adjusting homeowners’ claims, but she previously worked in their public affairs and auto claims divisions.

Hutchison decided to pursue graduate studies because “there are few things I love more than learning. I am constantly digging into new information and trying to soak up as much as I can. Graduate studies just seemed like a natural step for me and since I am in the business field, an MBA felt appropriate for the work I do.”

As a student at Muskingum, Hutchison took in a wide range of experiences. She explains, “Throughout my four years at Muskingum I was able to study and intern in Washington, D.C., participate in a student conference where I lived at West Point Military Academy for a week, write research with a professor and present it at a national conference, serve as student body president, and I even met the man who would become my husband! The list could honestly go on and on. It was an amazing four years at Muskingum - wouldn't have traded it for the world.”

Like many members of the Long Magenta Line, Hutchison appreciates the relationships she formed with faculty members and the guidance and encouragement she received from them. For her, the supportive community at Muskingum was the perfect fit. “Just because you're at a small school does not mean your opportunities are limited. Actually, it's just the opposite because you do not have to compete with thousands of students. A smaller environment means there are more things for you to do!”
