Since graduating in 2005, journalism major Kimi Heskett has entered the world of marketing and also earned her Masters of Arts in Communication and Leadership from Gonzaga University. “I've finally found my true home in marketing operations and love working for OnBase by Hyland in Westlake, Ohio,” she says.
Although Heskett chose Muskingum for both the liberal arts experience and the opportunity to participate in varsity athletics on the cross country and track teams, she was also involved in leadership positions in her sorority, Kianu, The Black & Magenta campus newspaper and the Society of Collegiate Journalists, among other groups. Heskett said, “I believe these experiences help instill confidence in me to take on leadership positions in my career.”
Heskett says she was “surprised by how much I got out of my experiences with Greek life. I hadn't planned on getting involved in that aspect of college life but am so glad I did. Some of those ladies are still my closest friends today.” In fact, Heskett is still involved; she currently serves as the Vice President of the Chi Alpha Nu Alumnae board.
Heskett appreciates the internships that she was required to complete for her journalism major. She says, “I interned with the Public Relations and Sports Information offices while on campus and feel like those experiences gave me a leg up on the job market after I graduated.”
Finally, Heskett advises students entering the job market to “keep an open mind about opportunities, stay positive and have a good, strong handshake!”
