Jarrod Dalton, a 2002 graduate with a computer science and business degree, came to Muskingum from his hometown of Conneaut, Ohio for two primary reasons. First was value: “I could get a top-quality private liberal arts education for a very reasonable tuition.” Second was the “knowledge and friendliness of the computer science faculty I had interviewed with.”
As an undergraduate student, Dalton was looking for a career direction that involved “real-world” situations. He found his answer when he took a couple of statistics courses at Muskingum, but he knew he wanted more training.
Upon graduating from Muskingum, Dalton decided to pursue a master’s degree in statistics at the University of Michigan thanks to encouragement from Dr. Richard Daquila in the Mathematics Department.
Dalton now lives in the Cleveland area, where he works as a collaborating biostatistician at Cleveland Clinic. In 2013, Dalton completed a Ph.D. in epidemiology and biostatistics at Case Western Reserve University. He was also chosen for a highly competitive mentored research training program through the National Institutes of Health.
Dalton attributes his success since graduating from Muskingum in part to the mentoring that he received from Dr. Daquila, as well as other faculty members. He has also found that his liberal arts education gives him an advantage over his peers who went through more specialized undergraduate programs.
Dalton is married to 2002 Muskie alumna Jamie Kocinski.
