Minute with a Muskie

Greg Ours

Greg Ours, ’86, came to Muskingum from Hebron, Ohio. He says, “I fell in love with the rural setting and the people I met on my visit. The reputation of the education plus Jeff Heacock made the decision easy.”

After graduating, Ours spent three years in the NFL, playing for a couple of different teams. He then spent four years working in his family’s business in Hebron. He worked for two different companies for the next decade, living in both Northern California and North Georgia. In 2003, he purchased a manufacturing company, Poly Enterprises, where he continues to serve as President and Owner. Poly Enterprises is the global leader in molded vinyl products.

Although Ours acknowledges his Muskingum education for some of his success, he credits most of it to the friendships he built with fellow football players while he was a student athlete. “Most of us still stay in touch and most of them are successful. Those guys motivate me because of how competitive they were and are in everything they do.”

Ours reiterates the power of relationships when asked which part of his Muskingum experience he is most thankful for: “It is all about people – Coach Heacock, Coach Christopher, my buddies.”

Ours advises college seniors who are trying to determine their “next steps” to “make a decision on what you want to do and go after it. Too many kids are trying to figure all their whole life by what career they select right after college. They make the decision so tough they don’t decide anything. Pick something and attack.”
