Dionne Dodson, a 1997 graduate of Muskingum, has built a successful coaching career since leaving Muskingum.
The Butler, Pennsylvania native liked Muskingum’s small school atmosphere and the opportunity she would have to play college basketball.
After earning her undergraduate degree in psychology from Muskingum, Dodson launched her coaching career – first at St. Francis University in Pennsylvania, then Coastal Carolina University, Manhattan College and Fordham University. She also earned her Master’s degree in Sport Management from Slippery Rock University. Dodson currently coaches at St. Francis Brooklyn College.
Because of the tight, family-oriented community at Muskingum, Dodson feels she has an advantage when she’s recruiting players to St. Francis Brooklyn, which has a similar atmosphere to that of Muskingum, as well as other schools where she has coached.
Of her experiences at Muskingum, Dodson says, “I never thought I would join a sorority, but I did, and my sisters of Theta Phi Alpha are some of the best people I know.” She also points to learning from and being coached by the late Donna Newberry as one of the highlights of her college career.
