Minute with a Muskie

Chelsea Kaunert
Class of 2012
Chelsea Kaunert, '12

Chelsea Kaunert, ’12, came to Muskingum from Lebanon, Ohio and majored in Communication. She chose Muskingum because it afforded her the opportunity to be a college athlete while still focusing on her education. She also loved the small-town atmosphere of New Concord and the people she met on campus.

Following her graduation from Muskingum, Kaunert received her Master’s in Sport Administration, then her Doctoral Degree in the School of Media and Communication, both from Bowling Green State University. While at BGSU, Kaunert worked in various capacities: as a teaching assistant, research assistant and administrative assistant. Following her graduation this past August (2017), Kaunert is now joining the faculty in the Recreation and Sport Management Department at Coastal Caroline University in Conway, SC. She has accepted a tenure track assistant professor position and will be teaching Sport Media and Communication as well as Moral Ethics and Reasoning in Sport.

Kaunert says that her advisor, Dr. Lisa Marshall, encouraged her to pursue graduate studies, and even suggested BGSU as a place she would enjoy and fit in.

Kaunert was able to gather many experiences at Muskingum that directed her path and set her up for success in graduate school. In addition to being a member of WMCO, she also assisted the Sports Information Director and worked athletic events.
