Brock Hutchison

Brock Hutchison, a 2012 graduate of Muskingum from Carrollton, Ohio, majored in history, political science and American studies. Following graduation, he earned his Master’s Degree in Library and Information Science through Kent State University’s online program. He is now the Head of Outreach Services at the Licking County Library in Newark, Ohio. Among his responsibilities is overseeing the Bookmobile, which travels to rural areas throughout the county, allowing residents to borrow books and other library materials.

One of the most important – and perhaps often-overlooked skills – that Hutchison gained during his undergraduate years was the ability to think and manage his time. He explains, “I have found that managing time is the most important attribute in my position.”

During his time at Muskingum, Hutchison spent a semester at the Library of Congress in Washington D.C., thanks to an internship program offered through Muskingum. He says, “It was through this internship that I fell in love with libraries, and discovered what I wanted to do for my career.”

Hutchison advises students to “Take the advice of your peers and advisors to heart. One of the best things about Muskingum was getting to know the faculty and staff. They genuinely care about the students, and are a great source of guidance.”
